Wiki Can this be billed?

Oh ok sorry my brain was in a totally different spot. As far as I am aware it can be billed without the 83013, I have nothing in my bag of tricks.. my list of things you cannot do!.. that says this cannot be done. Maybe someone else knows differently.

I looked it up in an Ingenix book of Px, and it says that 83014 is the administration of an isotope and sample collection (what sample?) and 83013 is for the breath test analysis. Does that mean that the 83014 is done in the OV, and they should be sending out the 83013?

I know this is a very old thread (>10 years), but it's related to this topic so wanted to keep it together. Hopefully in the 10 years that has passed, there is more clarity in how it should be billed!!! I could not find much reference online.

My question is - can 83014 be billed by a Gastroenterologist in office?

Is modifier 90 supposed to be appended or any other modifier?

The claim for this code is denied - EOB remark code are
  • N95: This provider type/provider specialty may not bill this service.
  • PI170: Payment is denied when performed/billed by this type of provider. Note: Refer to the 835 Healthcare Policy Identification Segment (loop 2110 Service Payment Information REF), if present.
Also an EM code 99214 (no modifier) was billed along with it, which was also denied for missing referral! [Establishes patient , ongoing treatment!]. I think the EM is justified but probably a 99213 with mod 25?
