Can I charge a 51700 if a nurse performed the procedure or does this have to be done by the physician? Nurse dictated bladder irrigation with 1000cc normal saline irrigated with 3 small blood clots. saline returned clear after 500 cc. instilled easily. new leg bag applied. reviewed with patient's wife. they will see their primary care this afternoon.

The patient also seen the physician.

If done in the office, it can be charged and billed under the supervising physician's credentials if all of the 'incident to' requirements have been met. If done in a facility by a nurse employed by the hospital, then it can only be billed by the hospital on the UB-04 claim.

Thanks. I wasn't totally sure because I have this Urology specialty description book of CPT codes and it lists the code as done by the physician.
