When calculating the MDM, for a patient with stable, chronic hypertension (I10) and a BMI (Z68.43) how many points would you give for treating/evaluating these two diagnoses? (under the dx and management options) The physician does state she counseled the patient on dietary management and education under the BMI assessment and plan.

Problem Points

We treat status codes as minor problems and so would assign one point for the BMI based on your example. One stable, chronic problem (HTN) is one point as well. Based only on the limited information in your post and not the actual documentation or review of ICD-10 coding guidelines: two problem points and low on the table of risk.
