I have an OBGYN whose patient delivered early as an emergency and the resident doctor on call delivered the baby. This doctor is not part of our group or covering doctors. My doctor has been seeing this patient since day one of pregnancy. My dilemma is, my surgeon wants to bill for this surgery even though she didn't do the surgery. Is there a modifier that I can put on the surgical code or do we just bill for the antepartum visits? Thanks for your help.

You can only bill for services provided by your phy./grp. Did she assist with C-S? Then you can bill for that. Was she on standby during surgery for baby care? If patient comes back for post partum care there then you can bill for that. You must have documentation for all services billed. Hope this helps.
