Wiki Bursal excision over the IT band CPT code

Hello there Ortho coders,

Patient had sustained tibial plateau fracture when a balcony collapsed on him.

Dr performed removal of anterior tibial plate and crews from lateral tibial plateau. "there was a prominent screw at the posterolateral aspect of the plate. This was sitting off the plant approximately 5mm. This was in the area where there was significant bursal effusion. The bursa was resected using Metzenbaum scissors and pickups. I then removed the screw, which i believe was likely source of bursal effusions and pain."

Can anyone assist with CPT code for bursal excision, please?

I'm trying to determine from your note what exactly was going on. Was this a previous injury and repair that now has bursitis from prominent hardware? If so, it seems like the bursa resection was part of dissecting down for the hardware removal. If that is the case, I'd just code for the hardware removal. If that isn't the case, can you clarify? Thanks!
