If you have a CT Bone Marrow Biopsy chart that is still awaiting the Path report, do you go ahead and code it so not to hold up billing?

For any of the procedures I have coded, I wait for the path report to come back. This usually only take a couple of days, but in some circumstances, it has taken a couple of weeks.

What does everyone else do?
 
Thank you, that's what I ad been doing for 8 yrs. Just recently our facility went through a restructuring phase and I was merged from being a Radiology coding specialist to the Medical Records department. I was advised by them today that per the Outpatient coding guidelines in the ICD-9 book that it was ok to go ahead and code the signs/symptoms without the Path results. Im leary of it and I am not going to jeopardize my way of coding and the integrity of what I think is appropriate for not only coding but patient care as well.
