My dr performed a procedure he called an ertl below the knee amputation. Upon doing some research, I found that it is named after the person who first performed it and it is not an acronym. They take a piece of the fibula and use it to make a bone bridge between the tib and fib to make the amputation stump more solid. Has anyone coded these and how? Is it just considered part of the amputation? I wouldn't really think so because I see a lot of bka and I've only had one patient where they have done an ertl. Would I just add a -22 to 27880? I thought about bone grafts but it is taken from the same incision. I looked at 20955 but they don't talk about dealing with microvascular anastomosis. Do an unlisted code and compare to 27880 + 20%?
Thanks
