Patient came in for annual physical exam. Established patient age 62. Codes from medical office were 99396 and 99213.

For annual physican, orders for usual lab testing and medications renewed for another year. No new health issues were addressed.

Are these codes correct? Should the patient be charged for the annual physical exam and also an office visit?

Thank you.

No only the preventive. The affordable care act states that when a visit is primarily preventive there is no cost sharing, but when you bill an ov with preventive then there will be a copay. If you can show that the ov was completely separate as with a separate note the it could be allowed but you will need a cc for the ov, and if the patient has no concerns or complaints I do not see how it can be justified
