How can a physician assistant bill for services for a Wisconsin Medicaid client? I was told that they can only be approved by Medicaid as a rendering provider but not a billing provider. How can they get paid for their services if they are not allowed to bill for them?

PAs can't practice independently; they can only practice under the supervision of a physician. So that's all they're saying - you can't enroll a PA as a billing provider, but they can bill for their services, as the rendering provider, with the payment going to the physician group that employs them. Your physician-owner or group NPI (billing provider) will go in box 31 on the claim form, and the PA's NPI goes in box 24J. The payment will go to the billing provider.
