Wiki Billing responibilities

I read all the office notes, check codes and bill and recently the doctors do not want me reading the notes and just billing what they put down to save time and money. I am not comfortable with this at all because I feel I will be held responsible, but due to money and time this is how they would like it done. Am I wrong that I would be held responsible for this because I am the one doing the billing?

You could only be responsible and would only be at risk if you participate in knowingly submitting incorrect claims. It is common in many practices allow providers to do their own coding and use coders just to perform periodic audits and to give feedback and education. No employee can be responsible for everything that goes on in an organization, but the risk occurs if a coder becomes aware of a pattern of false claims or other illegal activity and fails to take steps to correct it.
