Quick question,

Can you bill the patient for the withhold amount?

Example: patient comes in for a office visit, insurance paid $81.37, contractual-$15.38, withhold-$7.19, coinsurance-$21.16. Can we bill the patient for the $7.19 with the coinsurance of $21.16?

And can we do the same if the patient comes in for a flu shot?

Withholds are generally amounts withheld from the provider’s payment and should not be billed to the patient. If you are a contract provider the patient should only be liable for deductible/coinsurance/copays.
