My question is can our nurse practitioners bill for preoperative clearance exams even if the patient is not established in our clinic? So this would be a new patient.
if the patient is not established with the clinic then yes it is a new patient for any provider in your clinic and yes the NP can perform this visit provided he/she bills under their own NPI you cannot bill this under a physician NPI as it is a new patient. Therefore be certain the NP is credentialed with that carrier.
