I have never had this scenario before. Doc saw this patient at the hospital, inpatient 6/4/14. Now he gets called to see him again as he is still in the hospital since then. We are thinking f/u would that be correct? Doc is a Cardiologist Thanks Nancy
 
I think it depends... the first time can be billed as an inpatient consultation. if the doc sees him again for the same issue, then bill inpatient subsequent visit.

However, if the doc is being asked to see him for ANOTHER seperate issue, and the dx is different than the initial consult, you could bill another consult. but most likely, that is not the case. And it will most likely be denied. I would bill a subsuquent 99231-99233 code
