Can an ASC bill code 20902, application of allograft, or 15777, implantation of biologic implant, if the doctor is not employed by the ASC? I was told that only the doctor's office could bill this for his/her services.

Thanks for your help.

I never heard the physician needs to be employed in order to bill for the same codes. When doing ASC coding, utilizing payment indicators will help in letting you know what you can and cannot report and perform (referencing inpatient only procedures). I have reported 15777 in the past without any troubles.

CPT 20902 has the following payment indicator:

ASC Payment Indicator - A2
Surgical procedure on ASC list in CY 2007; payment based on OPPS relative payment weight.

CPT 15777 has the following payment indicator:

ASC Payment Indicator - G2
Non office-based surgical procedure added in CY 2008 or later; payment based on OPPS relative payment weight.
