I have had several referrals regarding unicompartmental knee arthroplasty when they also do a patelloplasty. I researched and I found where they say CPT 27427, arthroplasty patella without the prosthesis cannot be billed with CPT 27446, arthroplasty knee, condyle and plateau, medial or lateral compartment. They are both not IPO but I want to make sure I am teaching this correctly. They gave no explanation as to why both codes could not be used together. I am still considering this a unicompartmental knee arthroplasty since code 27446 is taking about the compartment medial or lateral and nothing about the patella. I am not sure if we need to code the patellopasty separately or is it integral part of the unicompartmental arthroplasty. Please advice. Thanks so much.
