Hello Everyone!

There is a debate between some of the office billers about coding office visits during a patients global period, for example:

Patient had a total knee replacement, 3 weeks later the patient had a fall, comes into the office for a post op visit and is diagnosed with a knee contusion. Some say the Dr can charge another visit with the new diagnosis even though its during the post op period and the same knee surgery was done on and others disagree.

Any thoughts? Was hoping I could get some different opinions on here,

Thank you all in advance!

I would say that the fall created a whole new problem to examine. It wasn't a complication of surgery, so I would bill and E/M with a 24 modifier and make sure you attach an E code for the fall and a new date of injury should be applied to the claim as well.
