We recently starting doing this influenza test in our pediatric office. We were told before we started using test that it was CLIA waived and could be done in the physician's office. Now we are getting ins denials as this provider type/provider specialty may not bill this service. (Or that the test is only approved for an outside lab). Tried adding the qw modifier on the cpt. Then we got denials code is inconsistent with the modifier used or modifier is missing. We also have a few claims were it was applied to the patient's deductible when billed with and without the qw modifier. Completely confused now. Could anyone please shed some light on this? Any help would be appreciated.
