Wiki billing boot/splint supply

So how do you handle this scenario: Patient presents for office visit/clinic and the physician orders a walking boot for the patient. Inventory finds we do not have the boot that day, but the patient stops in two days later to pick up the boot that was ordered during the office visit?

Is the boot/supply billed out the actual day of the order at the visit, or is a separate encounter created with just a charge for the boot alone on the day it was picked up?

You would bill the date the supply was provided to the patient.
