Hi,
My name is Jennifer and I'm an FNP-BC who just signed up to take the billing and coding class as I am currently utilizing my EMR for billing and coding. As a result there are several charges that are geting written off as contractual obligation. I use an outside lab for my blood work that only bills Medicare. It is then up to me to bill all other insurances to be reimbursed for the lab cost that is billed to me from the lab directly. I have put in the CPT codes for the labs but they are all gitten written off as a contractual obligation. Can someone help me figure out if there is a modifer or something else I'm missing in the mean time while I'm waiting to take the course. I understand that I can't bill the patient if the insurance is saying a contractual obligation so I'd like to be able to recoup my expenses from my labs. I have a panel from today that will cost me $112 so I'd like to know ho to bill that to the insurance and get reimbursed.
Thanks,
Jenn
