I work for a Neurologist and today an established patient came in who is 47 years old female, has downs syndrome and epilepsy. She was having aggressive behavior never before seen, she was lashing out it was quite unsafe. Patient is a strong person. Had to call an Ambulance, they had to strap and tie down the patient on the stretcher and took patient to the hospital. The patient did have a complete office visit. I don't remember if we can charge the patient an office visit. I think there is a certain modifier to use! Please Advise me!

Thank you,
Terri

Did your doctor do the hospital admission or was the pateint admitted by another doc? If another doc did the admission you can charge an office visit with no modifier. If your doctor did the admission then you would add the work done in the office to the work done in the hospital to determine the level.
