Client comes to our adolescent clinic and NP does RAAPS (risk assessment) and assesses for and administers needed vaccines. She doesn't do enough to warrant billing an office visit.

When the client returns to our clinic for a physical or an office visit, would she be considered a NEW or ESTABLISHED patient?

The NP has developed a relationship with the client per our clinic standards. The CPT book says to bill established if they have seen a qualified healthcare professional for professional services in that office in the last 3 years. The client has seen a qualified healthcare professional.

Thank you for your help.

Yes. Face-to-face professional services were provided. There is no requirement to have a new patient E/M billed FIRST.

This is an established patient if these services were provided within the past 3 years.
