Good Morning,
Our group met yesterday to do some icd-10 training & this question was raised - looking for direction for the appropriate diagnosis coding.
a patient presents to the ortho specialist and is diagnosed with bilateral osteoarthritis of the hips. there is a bilateral icd10 dx code for that - if the patient & dr. deem that the left is worse than the right and the following visits focus more on that left hip and lead to a total joint rep of the left hip..... does the code morph to left hip primary oa at the point of decision for surgery? or should it be broken out into lt/rt diagnosis codes to start with?
