I was wondering if someone could clarify some conflicting information that I found in the magazine this month- on page 21 #6 it states that we are able to charge an additional E/M if chronic STABLE conditions are addressed at the preventive visit and on page 45 it states in order to bill an additional E/M the chronic conditions must be unstable. Wondering how others are handling this with the new 2021 guidelines?
Thanks in advance :)

The example from number 6 was specific to billing a GYN preventive and a separate E&M for their chronic non-GYN issues. I think this is allowed because the GYN visit would have a different focus than the E&M. Whereas, if they were being seen for a traditional preventive, the focus would be on overall health, so the systems would be reviewed and examined within that preventive and wouldn't necessarily be separated from the core purpose of the visit.
