This is my scenario. We have a patient who spent 2 weeks in the NICU. He passed his newborn hearing screening and protocol says he get's tested every 6 month. We just did his 6 month hearing exam and results were normal. He has no signs or symptoms of hearing loss. Mom has no concerns.
I feel we can only code this as a 765.10 and V72.19. My audiologist insists it's should be coded with unspecified hearing loss and maintains it's a diagostic not routine exam. They did show my something they got from the ASHA website which does say you can use 389.9 for normal result because that is what you are looking for. I strongly disagree and would appreciate any insight anyone may have. Thank you so much.
