When coding for an Audiologist, we have found that some insurances are denying the use of Z01.10 (Normal findings.) The patient was seen by the doctor just to see if he would need tubes while he was already in surgery. Dr did not find anything so we billed Z01.10. Does anyone else know a code to use for Normal hearing findings?

Also, if the patient was being seen to see if they have hearing loss, but they end up having normal hearing. Can we code sensorineural hearing loss as that is what we are checking for? I always thought that we could not bill that as they do not have any hearing loss.

you can never code for a diagnosis not documented by the provider. You can code for a screening for ear disorder, instead of a routine ear examination, however there is no guarantee that this will be covered by the payer.
 
audio normal findings

has anyone tried H83.3X9 (Noise effects on inner ear, unspecified ear) for patients with a history of noise exposure?
