Wiki Assigning MR # Prior to Admission

Hi!

I am interested on your thoughts whether a MR# can be assigned to a resident prior to admission. I work at a residential rehab/behavior health facility (55) and we are interested in assigning MR# during the Intake process, prior to the resident physically arriving to campus. I am not aware of any compliance issues, are you?

Not sure if there are compliance issues. I remember our facility used to have MR#s prior to intake. My guess is that since these are internally generated numbers there should be no compliance issue. However I would be more concerned with your EMR. We stopped assigning MR#s since through our EMR system, we were charged every time a new number was created, so if something happened and that client did not admit, then we were stuck with the bill.
