I have been out of medical coding for a while and have my medical coding certification as an apprentice. Right now, I am a medical receptionist for an urgent care but would love to get back into medical coding part time. Any suggestions on what I can do? Plus, any suggestions on how I can retrigger some knowledge like classes on any new/old medical coding information. Thank you.

Get involved in your local AAPC Chapter. Attend meetings and workshops and volunteer. I have hired many individuals through meeting them at chapter meetings.
Reach out to the coders/billers that do the work for your urgent care center and ask whether they are hiring, and if not, what do they look for when they are hiring.
If you've been out of touch even a year, there's so much that's changed, you would need to re-visit the information. Review the current books: CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS to re-familiarize yourself with the code sets and changes
Visit your local Medicare Administrative Contractor's website to review their coding, billing and compliance information.
Review anatomy and physiology and medical terminology.
Take advantage of any sales offered by AAPC on training materials.

Good luck to you! :)
