My doc implanted non biodegradable antibiotic beads into pts foot.

Now he is removing them, 11982, but only about 4 or 5 at a time per week.

Is anyone aware of any rules on how many times this can be billed?

Thanks

Several questions come to mind:

Why would the physician want to take the patient back to the OR several times to remove the beads, that would lead to complication, if any?

You will need to check with Medicare's website. I believe they will only pay for it once.

pt. is not medicare and he is removing in-office surgical suite. I don't know why he is removing them in stages. I guess I will go ask him.

That is what I was thinking that I should only code it once??

Most insurance companies follow Medicare's guidelines, so I would go to their website and check to make sure you can only charge once.

Hope this helps,
Connie
