Good Day from Omaha, Nebraska. I code for a urology practice that contracts with an anesthesia group. The CRNA provides both GENERAL anesthesia as well as MAC. I have attached a redacted copy of the anesthesia record. Looking to find out which field we should be using for coding/billing the anesthesia - do you experience anesthesia coders go by the PLAN field or the TYPE field? Thank you for your expertise!

The plan is the intended method, and the type is the method used. In the case attached, it would be General.

Anesthesia providers base their anesthesia method on the patient's health ascertained through the history and physical performed prior to the anesthesia service.
