Hi,

I have a question regarding the correct place of service for anesthesia providers who perform pre-op consults. The physical location is the hospital, however this is where their office is located. The patients on arrival do not check in hospital admission, they are instructed to check in with our clinic employee who then creates an appointment for them in the EMR as a tracking tool. So far we have been billing POS 22 outpatient, but should it actually be 11 for office.

Thanks
Elouise

I would be interested in the feedback you receive on this issue. I have a similar situation whereby my pain management docs have office(s) within the specialty hospital; we just migrated to an EMR and for billing purposes - I use POS 11 (office) for services provided by the docs for seeing patients; if they opt to perform any procedures, I use POS 22 (outpatient hospital).
