Full thickness incision was made through the skin and deep tissues to the level of the bone using a 15-blade. The distal phalanx was then disarticulated at the DIP joint. The amputate portion of the finger was then sent to Pathology with appropriate stitches to mark the orientation. The would was then thoroughly irrigated. The cartilage at the middle phalanx was denuded using a rongeur. The tourniquet was released and hemostasis was obtained using bipolar electrocautery. The digital nerves were isolated and transected proximally, and allowed to retract. The FDP tendon was then sharply incised and allowed to retract. The skin was then closed with 4-0 nylon suture with a tensionless repair in a simple interrupted fashion....
