Hi, percutaneous nephrostolithotomy (PCNL) CPT descriptions have been updated for 2023 stating-
50080 (Percutaneous nephrolithotomy or pyelolithotomy, lithotripsy, or stone extraction, antegrade ureteroscopy, antegrade stent placement and nephrostomy tube placement, when performed, including imaging guidance; simple (eg, stone up to 2 cm in single location of kidney or renal pelvis, nonbranching stones))
50081 (… complex (eg, stone > 2 cm, branching stones, stones in multiple locations, ureter stones, complicated anatomy)
Hoping to get some assistance on the the coding scenario where the documentation of stone size is greater than 2 cm but in a single kidney location.
Should we go accordingly with the >2 cm size and code 50081
OR
Should we go by the single location and code 50080.
Will the size prioritize over location for complexity?
Suggestions are appreciated![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
