Hi All,
Thoughts on appropriate code assignment for 'Hyperthyroidism and Multinodular Goiter' E05.00 or E05.20?
The alpha index leads to either of these codes depending on which index path taken.
Index: Goiter, with, hyperthyroidism- says see Hyperthyroidism, with, goiter = E05.00, indent further to 'nodular (multinodular)' = E05.20?
or
Index: Goiter, multinodular (nontoxic) = E04.2, indent further to 'toxic OR with hyperthyroidism' = E05.20?
*"and" is documented in the note not "with" but per per the "with" conventions guideline the word "with" should be interpreted to mean "associated with" or "due to" when it appears in the Alphabetic Index. The classification presumes a causal relationship between these two conditions linked by the term "with" in the Alphabetic Index.
or code hyperthyroidism and multinodular goiter separately = E05.90 & E04.2? since E05.20 code description is 'toxic' but the note does not support 'toxic' even though the index leads to toxic when following the "with" convention guideline?
TIA
