Wiki allergy versus allergic reacton

Hi, the providers I'm auditing encounters for very frequently choose the code allergic reaction, thus prompting an injury date requirement on the claim form. 9 times out of 10, this is a something that is chronic( ie. rash for a few weeks/ months, unknown cause). is there a code out there for general allergy, rather than allergic reaction? if not, would the best code choice be the actual rash, instead of allergic reaction, or doesn't this matter all that much (primary care)

If there is no acute reaction then it cannot be coded for the current encounter. Simple having the allergy would be a V code.

thanks Debra. Quick question as I am brand new to the forums. I did not receive any emails notifications or anything on the site stating that I had a response to my question. How do you know when people have responded. I manually check my threads for responses. Any help appreciated!
