I work in an OB/GYN office with multiple providers. We also have an LPC here for therapy who is under our group tax id. When a patient comes in for an OB/GYN related visit w/ a billable E&M code (99201-99255) and also sees the LPC the same day for a 45 minute session (90834), should I bill the add on code 90836 instead? There are obviously two separate providers, which would mean two separate claims...So I'm confused as to whether the add on code 90836 is applicable to a therapist who may be able to perform an E&M service the same day, which I have never seen. Or is my situation the very scenario in which 90836 would be use? Thank you in advance for all help/advice!

E&M with therapy

The add-on therapy for E&M is typically used by psychiatrists who do medication management AND therapy. Your therapist is not doing E&M therefore s/he would use the 90834 not the add-on code.

Have a great day!
