Have a quick question...if a Medicare/Medicaid pt comes in for an allergy injection only can we have them sign an ABN and charge the pt? The medicine is sent to us in the mail by the allergerist. We just do the injection administration on the pt. This is also rural health... but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If it is non covered you do not need an ABN but you can get one if you like you will need the GX modifier. If it is covered by medical necessity and you do not have the dx that is covered then you must get a mandatory ABN and use the GA modifier.

ABN & injection

Michelle,
Thank you...we have been writing these off and since we are getting more and more pts that are coming to our clinic for the sole purpose of getting their allergy injections and we don't see them for any other ailments, it's getting costly! Not just monetarily but also in terms of our nurses time and all the preparation...
I just wasn't sure about the ABN aspect...
Thank you again,
Diann
