Wiki 99460 with 99238 on same day

If a baby is born on for example 6/1, but the provider did not do the initial newborn care until 6/2 and they also discharged the newborn on 6/2, can both 99460 and 99238 be reported on the same day? 99463 wouldn't be appropriate because the baby was admitted in 6/1 not 6/2. Any suggestions?

Actually, 99463 is the most appropriate code in this scenario. Professional charges happen on the date of the provider's face-to-face encounter with the patient. The facility will bill the admit date of 6/1, as that is when they provided the nursing labor, supplies, delivery room, etc. for (excuse the pun) labor and delivery.

Simce your physician provided both admission and discharge services on the same date, 99463 is the way to go, I would say.

99462 and 99238

The same physician can not bill this to codes together on the same day, correct? It was not an admit and discharge on the same day so it wouldn't no be the 99463. Also I am thinking that if they billed both codes, there was significant time spent so they could possibly bill the 99239 instead? Thanks

No, you would only bill the 99463, as the code description states "Initial hospital or birthing center care, per day, for evaluation and management of a normal newborn infant admitted and discharged on the same date."
