I work in a group OB/GYN practice. We have a medicare patient who was admitted to hospital in the early morning as inpatient by our MD A. Patient was discharged from inpatient status by our MD B late in the evening the same day. Im confused about the combined admit/discharge codes. Do 99234 thru 99236 apply to a group practice, where a member of the group does admit and a different member of the same group does discharge? I found a line in the medicare processing manual, which states documentation must identify the admit and discharge notes were written by the billing physician. Does "physician" imply "physician goup"? Can anyone point me to a resource/answer I can present to my Drs?
thank you

Hi, I just recently had this same question, there is an article in the July issue of the Coding Edge that further explains this common scenario. Hope this helps you
