Hello, I have a pathologist who wants to bill a 99000, collection/handling fee when they pick a specimen up from the hospital to take to their lab. Does anyone know if we can do that?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you!

We bill it in cases like that. It hardly ever pays, but we bill it! We just write it off if it denies - check the payment policies with your payers before implementing a new code like that. Most of them will have a specific policy about specimen handling that you can find online or in a provider manual - especially the ones that don't pay it. It'll save you time in the long run to know early whether it's going to deny or not.:cool:
