I work for a Pulmonologist/Sleep Med. physician who works at a local hospital's out patient sleep clinic. When my doctor orders a 95811, C-PAP procedure, the sleep clinic will request the authorization for the C-PAP for that date of service. In the past they have also requested an authorization for the next date of service for the 94660 which is the initiation and management of the C-PAP which my doctor does at the patient's bedside the next morning.

The sleep clinic is now telling my doctor that they can no longer request the authorization for the 94660 because, per the CPT code book, it is an "IN PATIENT" procedure. My CPT book has nothing about being an "IN PATIENT" procedure. Also, they are telling him since they are not billing for it, so they cannot request the authorization for him. Does this sounds correct to anyone at there?? It sounds to me like they are not making money on it so......

Thank!
