Can we bill 92250 under a physician. It states it is an opthalmolical services.

I know we can bill under Blue Cross, but my main concern is Medicare.....any help would be appreciated.

Yes you can. Typically this is performed by a tech. This can also be performed when the physician isn't present because it only requires general supervision. If the physician isn't present in the office during the photos you need to append a TC modifier and the when the physician intreprets the test bill with a 26. If the physician owns the equipment and it's done all at one time you can just bill the 92250.

Do you have any resources that point to what kind of physican call bill for a fundus exam? We have an endocrinologist that is interested in performing the test and sending the report to be read by an outside physician (opthamologist), but Medicare has said they won't pay for it if it is done by a non-eye physician. I'm curious as to what the other carriers say...

Thank you in advance for any response!!
