If a provider on a psych unit is making med changes during the patient's stay, but after the initial evaluation was done, is it appropriate to use the add-on 90863 with the code for supportive verbal therapy? Are other coders using this code for inpatient stays? Thanks!

90863 is only to bill for medication management done by Licensed Psychologist, that has rights to order medications.

A new add-on code ? 90863 ? has been added to
describe pharmacological management when performed by
a prescribing psychologist; Physicians should NEVER use
90863

90863 is only for use by those few psychologists licensed to prescribe in Louisiana and New Mexico who are not qualified to bill evaluation and management codes. 90863 is not recognized by Medicare
