I am billing MassHealth for 88344 x 3 (3 separate immunostains). MassHealth is only paying for 1. Has anyone billed for more than 1 and was paid?

I am trying to determine the same thing we have tried billing 88344 with multiple units and we are being denied. My pathologist is saying we should be being reimbursed because multiple multiplex antibody stains are performed on more than one block from a 12 core prostate biopsy. But that is not happening for us. Trying to get some feed back as to what others are billing out.

Do you mean multiple blocks or multiple specimens? The charge can be made once per specimen. For example, if you have 3 specimens, A, B, and C, you can charge 88344 X 3. However, if you performed the stain on 3 blocks of one specimen, for example, A1, A2, and A3, you can charge just once for 88344.

As far as I know, we haven't had any denials for multiple units of 88344 or 88342 when performed on multiple specimens.

Curious...when you bill MassHealth for the biopsies, do you use G0416 or 88305?
