Hello!

One of my doctors is questioning which is the better code when using ultrasound guidance during surgery. For example, during a port placement, which would be the better code to use? Unfortunately, I don't have a specific surgery to quote the op note. This is a general question that he is asking.

We use 76937-26 for Ultrasound Guidance of Port. If your Doctor uses Fluroscopy during the placement of the port you can use 77001-26. If you will check the RVU's you will see that you get better reimbursement for the 77001-26 Fluroscopy. You cannot use both codes but you can choose if he does the ultrasound and the fluroscopy.

76937,26 and 77001,26 can be used since there is no bundling issue by NCCI edits. Ultrasound guidance is coded if documented recorded and reported. 76998 is used other than vascular line placement
