Most of the cataract surgeries coded here are very straightforward: 66984. However one patient came in that had previously taken Flomax, thus eyedrops were given to him three days prior to the surgery. On the day of the surgery, it was noted that he had a strong blink reflex, therefore an O'Brien Block was given prior to surgery. I don't think that the Flomax would be a reason for a more complicated procedure, but the O'Brien Block is a technique that is not generally used in routine cataract surgery.

I'd appreciate your opinion regarding this! How do I code a strong blink reflex?? 7961?
