Wiki 55?

If a patient had surgery elsewhere and you were providing all of the aftercare, you would want to append modifier 55 to your service to indicate this.

Does the doctor performing the surgery have to append a 54 modifier to his surgery? Also if you are under a different tax ID couldn't you just bill for the office visits?

The 55 modifier attaches the surgical code of the surgery performed when the surgeon has transferred the post op management to you. Yes the surgeon should bill with the 54 modifier, when they know the patient will be followed by a different physician for post op. No you cannot bill using ov codes as your claims will fail because it is under the global.
