Question, if you look at code 427.5 it has the 1 in front of it and at the bottom of the page it states 1 mcc=only if patient is discharged alive. Can this dx only be used if pt was discharged alive. Is there guiedlines for this 1 in front of the code.

While using 427.5 the disease/etiology condition usually causing 427.5 shoudl be coded first....

the number 1 is a footnote..the explanation for the number 1 footnote in front of the code is found in the front of the CPT book under "Additional Conventions"... scan through till you reach "FOOTNOTES"... start there. you'll find your answer
(basically, it's concerning a MCC and DRG's can be affected)
