I know we only use 29807 with SLAP. I do understand that. However, I am getting
confused with the use of 29806 and 29807. ( actually, I think my doctor is the one confusing me . . . ). He recently did surgery where he did a Bankart reconstruction and
then he also did a posterior labral repair on the opposite side of the joint. He is stating
to code 29806 and 29807. His report reads ( this is what he states is 29807):
The scope was placed anteriorly. The instrumentation was carried out posteriorly through a large cannula. The posterior portion of the glenoid was decorticated to allow for a good bone bleeding surface. There was a fairly reasonable size labrum left despite the fact that the patient had avulsed half of it. The avulsed portion of the labrum was removed. Inferiorly, to bring the posterior labrum up, a Fiberwire suture anchor was used with knots. This brought the edge up. The remaining repair was done with knotless technique. Two additional PushLocks with Fiberwire were then placed through the posterior labrum and this was placed into the defect to reconstruct the posterior labral complex. All bony defects were now covered.

My thought is both procedures is 29806
Please help ?

When these two codes are performed on the same are performed within the same portal with an arthroscope, they cannot be reported separately unless they are specifically performed for separate indications.

Here is an excellent article that defines when it is possible to bill them as speparate procedures. The second link has Global Guidelines identical to the ones you would find in the AAOS Complete Global Guidelines Books.
