Op note:
"Attention was directed towards the third digit, right foot, where two semielliptical converging incisions were made over the PIP joint. Island of skin was removed. Dissection was carried out using sharp and blunt technique. PIP joint was identified, transected the medial and lateral collateral ligaments were severed. The long extensor tendon released distally and proximally and the sagittal saw was used to remove the articular surface of both the base and head of the PIP joint. The foot was loaded and good alignment was noted and the arthrodesis site was secured using a 0.062 K-wire inserting into the metatarsal shaft."
It doesn't state the head of the proximal phalanx was removed but the "base and head of the PIP joint." Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
