I have a surgeon who did a colectomy, 2 sections, but had to do adhesiolysis for 2 hours to free up the colon and small intestines before he could do the procedures. Would it be appropriate to use the modifier 22 with the codes? Or with just one, the first section he started to do? Thanks.:)
 
I would use the 22 modifier and also write a short letter describing why you have increased the price and send along with operative note. That's what I do and usually can get $150-$200 more which is better than nothing. Good Luck!!
 
What insurance company is paying an addition $150 - 200.00 more for the 22 modifier.

I agree in this case the 22 modifier should be added.

We are finding that for Medicare they will pay extra for the 22 modifier but only about 20-25.00, but again, it is better than nothing.
